Simmons Career Center provides students a second opportunity to graduate from high school at an accelerated pace, while receiving technical training in areas such as industrial technology, business education, and agriculture. We offer the 18-credit (ACCEL), as well as the 24-credit standard high school diploma. Some of the technical programs available require prerequisites and/or instructor approval.
Following are a few tips for students and parents to get things started.
Students are required to wear career dress apparel every day without exception. Career apparel includes wearing a polo with the Simmons logo on it. The polo shirts can be purchased in the front office. Dark Pants and closed-toe shoes are also required. Please note that jeans are acceptable. Jeans with holes or that are torn are not acceptable.
Students are not permitted to bring backpacks – even if the backpack is being used as a purse.
Parents need to make sure that they complete and submit the emergency cards that are given out on the first day of school.
Cell phones cannot be used by students during instructional time. We want to reach out to parents to help us reinforce this expectation, so that your child’s cell phone is not confiscated, which may put you in a situation where you, the parent, would have to come pick it up.
If a parent needs to leave a message for the student, please call the front office and the office staff will deliver the message to the student. Keep in mind that we want our students to remain in class, learning and making progress with the least amount of distractions.
What Makes Simmons Different
Simmons Career Center is a school of choice to provide students with a fresh start towards earning their high school diploma. Students are given the opportunity to combine academics and some technical classes that will assist them in getting their standard high school diploma, entering college, and be technically advanced to join the work force or the military. Simmons Career Center has a large attendance boundary that includes areas of Armwood, Brandon, Bloomingdale, Durant and Plant City high schools. We offer bus transportation so long as the students live within our attendance boundary.
